Merry Christmas from Wonkosphere!
(with all respect to Clement Clarke Moore)
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the country
Not a candidate was stirring, not even Mitt Romney;
The candidates’ stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Joementum soon would be there;
The voters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of poll numbers danced in their heads;
And Ann Coulter in her ‘kerchief, and Mark Penn in his cap,
Had just settled down for an extremely short winter’s nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. (more…)

Many moons ago we uncovered that Huckabee and Romney appeared be to tied at the hip when it came to Wonkosphere buzz share, when one went up or down so did the other. Further, their fortunes seemed to be negatively linked to Thompson and McCain–whenever they went up the other two went down, and visa versa. At the time I posited that this dynamic was being caused by the struggle between evangelicals versus non-evalngelicals in the Republican party.
Today, Thompson is not getting any attention anymore, and Romney (like Giuliani) seems to be “decoupled” from the others–his buzz share rises and falls somewhat on its own. But Huckabee and McCain still demonstrate this teeter-totter, and with McCain’s Des Moines Register and Lieberman endorsements over the weekend, he stole buzz mostly from Huckabee. Huckabee still led in buzz share amongst conservative bloggers at 30%, but that was a decrease of 10% over the weekend. McCain shot up to 25%, edging out Ron Paul Romney at 21% and 18% respectively. Giuliani and Thompson both lost 4% over the weekend, falling below the 10% “We’re not paying attention” mark. The negative correlation between Huckabee and McCain in buzz share suggests they’re being discussed by the same community of conservative bloggers, who are struggling with the issue of “who has momentum” as we rush towards the Iowa caucus. McCain’s previous endorsements have not generated extended attention (like his debate wins), so we’ll see if it’s different this time. Mainstream media would love a McCain comeback–they love McCain anyway, and it would only further add drama and uncertainty to the nomination process.

So who had a good week in Wonkosphere? I looked at buzz share changes from the week of December 1-7 to the week of December 8-14. Winners were Chris Dodd (because of his threatening to filibuster the FISA bill), Mike Huckabee, Barack Obama (no surprises), and hold your breathe, Fred Thompson. Yep, with a couple of evangelical endorsements, Thompson’s buzz share shot up to a more respectful 10% last week; we’ll see if it lasts. John Edwards and John McCain both lost buzz share, not a good indicator of positive movement. This upcoming week is really the start of the phase were television advertising starts coming into play big time, so look for a lot of buzz from Clinton, Obama and Romney, and we’ll see how much $$ Huck has been able to raise in the last month.
Wonkosphere.com reports that Mike Huckabee and John Edwards were the most likable presidential candidates amongst their constituents in the month of November, followed closely by Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Barack Obama, and Chris Dodd. Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton were the two leading candidates who had the most negative buzz from conservative and liberal bloggers, respectively.

Ron Paul rises, but Hillary Clinton surprises; Wonkosphere.com reports that buzz share results for September indicate the possibility of a wild campaign season.
(PRWEB) October 8, 2007 — Texas representative and Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul lived up to his Internet fame in September. Wonkosphere.com has reported that Paul finished in first place amongst Republican candidates for buzz share from conservative bloggers. Buzz share measures how much the political blogosphere is talking about a particular candidate, and Paul’s 16% beat out Senator Fred Thompson (13%) and Mayor Rudy Giuliani (10%). The real untold story however of Internet politics in September is bloggers’ obsession with New York Senator Hillary Clinton.
Once a day not enough of a “fix” for you? WonkoSteve and WonkoKevin are happy to announce that the buzz lists associated with each candidate and buzz list page are now being updated every four hours, so you’ll be able to find the greatest and the latest. Enjoy!
