Two rights don’t right a wrong.  I picked Romney and Clinton, but thought Huckabee would beat McCain because of lower independent turnout in South Carolina.  Turns out there was lower independent turnout, and strong evangelical turnout, but McCain did pretty well with both.  So congratulations to John and Mitt and Hillary, and I guess Barack too when it comes to delegate counts. Ron Paul, nice silver in Nevada.  Here’s how I see things standing: (more…)

Are McCain bulls sluggish?

John McCain had his third straight day of increase in Wonkosphere buzz share, getting 18% from conservative bloggers, behind Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul.  The buzz is a confusing mix of bulls and bears though.  On the bullish side, influential Politico claims “McCain is bouncing back,” citing his recent debate performances, a slight increase in support for the Iraq war, and better money management.  Sorry, I don’t buy it.  While McCain did well in the debates, it’s history now (see: Fred Thompson’s disappearance this past week); his support for the war doesn’t differentiate him from the others; and despite doing better with money, insider buzz is that his campaign in basically bankrupt.  An email from the McCain campaign to supporters suggest they think NH is moving up and they need money, fast.  Without NH McCain has no chance.  Apparently the candidate doesn’t think he has a chance either–”McCain, R-Ariz, was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show Monday, when Patrick asked McCain for some political and sports prognostication. ‘Who has a better chance,’ Patrick asked McCain, ‘you to be president or Arizona to go to the World Series?’ McCain laughed, ‘Well, in all due respect,’ he said, ‘I think they’re about the same.’ ”

I wonder what he thought watching last night’s game where the Rockies completed their sweep of the DBacks?
