Huckabee taking buzz away from McCain
by WonkoKevin
Mike Huckabee’s poll numbers are more highly correlated with changes in his buzz share numbers than any other candidates’. When buzz share changes, so do Huckabee’s poll numbers 2-3 weeks later. And as we’ve discussed, Huckabee tends to move in the opposite direction of Thompson and McCain. If last week’s buzz share results are representative, they portend good poll news for Huckabee and bad news for McCain.
Take a look at Huckabee’s buzz share, especially amongst conservative bloggers. He’s bouncing around in the 15% range, triple where he was 6 weeks ago. A quick view of the buzz shows much of it is questioning Huckabee’s credentials as a conservative, and highlighting previous statements and actions–and I would imagine Huck’s campaign is pleased as punch about this, because such energetic vetting means he is being taken seriously. I have always felt Hope 2.0 is the most electable Republican in a general election, so it will be interesting to see if that’s the next element of the conversation.

Who is he taking buzz away from? Not Rudy–Rudy’s buzz share is about as steady as can be.

While Thompson and Romney show a lot more fluctuation, there doesn’t appear to be a trend.

On the other hand, McCain’s buzz share has plummetted again…Not good news for McCain, who also has been not been paid attention to recently by the Iowa press.
