4 years of perspective

by WonkoKevin

Four years ago today, Nov 4 2003, Howard Dean bobbled the ball while in the lead to take the Iowa caucus, saying that he wanted to be the candidate “for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks.”

A Zogby poll right at the same time showed the following in terms of Democratic presidential preference:

Not Sure 34%
Howard Dean 15
Wesley Clark 10
Dick Gephardt 9
Joe Lieberman 9
John Kerry 7
Al Sharpton 4
John Edwards 3
Dennis Kucinich 2
Carol Moseley Braun 2
Other 6

So while Kerry did leap up from 5th place, Dean didn’t have the type of commanding lead that Hillary Clinton has now.
