Thompson can’t hold attention
by WonkoKevin
Fred Thompson was considered the winner of the Dearborn debate last week, or at least tied with Giuliani, and his Wonkosphere buzz share attested to it; but since then he’s gone back down to his pre-debate levels, around 10% amongst conservative bloggers (see graph below). If Fred Thompson only gets mentioned 1 out of every ten times a conservative blogger writes about the Republican candidates, it’s going to be hard for him to get the level of MSM attention he needs to compete with Giuliani and Romney. Thompson’s debate buzz most directly cut into Mike Huckabee’s buzz share, but Huckabee’s buzz share has now also recovered to pre-debate levels. So in hindsight, maybe we have to give the debate win to Giuliani.

I certainly hope you are no longer considering calling Thompson the debate winner. The man has no charisma, he started slow, his answers monotone and without a doubt the debate went to McCain. Or at least, that is how I see it. McCain has hopped back on the straight-shooter’s express and told it how it is. (Well, he tells it like it is when your mind is wired as a conservative Republican.) Though I disagree with all the Republicans on a multitude of issues I believe it is clear that Sen. John McCain is back. Unfortunately for Thompson he is all Hollywood excitement. Unless he does something drastic he will not be able to recover the Buzz.
