Bzzz… on Giuliani
by WonkoKevin
Rudy Giuliani took over the lead in Wonkosphere buzz share yesterday, knocking Hillary Clinton out of first place for the first time in several weeks. Giuliani had about 22% buzz share, including 30% of the Republican buzz from conservative bloggers and a whopping 60% of the attention to Republicans by liberal bloggers. There’s been a big shift however in the nature of Giuliani’s buzz. Whereas his buzz was all very positive from conservative bloggers during the summer, over the last two weeks the tone has been muc more negative. Both conservatives and liberals were questioning Giuliani’s commitment to gun owners after his visit to the NRA.
From Craig Gordon at Newsday:
Giuliani has made his performance after the 9/11 attacks a key part of his presidential campaign, but this was the first time he had linked his personal views on gun control to the terror attacks.
But afterward, some also questioned the depth of Giuliani’s political conversion on guns, or whether he was merely “pandering” — in the words of some — to a critical group in the Republican base.
“He wasn’t for the NRA basically at one time, and now he says he’s for them, so somewhere along the line he made a flip-flop there. I guess that’s how you look for votes,” said Ed Hanson, 60, a carpenter from Park Falls, Wisc., who said he is leaning toward Fred Thompson.
